Fishstock Cover

Fishstock insurance provides protection for your farmed fish from a loss as a result of a peril.

Aquaculture is split into three broad categories:

  • Onshore farming - constitutes the breeding and farming of fish in land based Containers, Ponds, and Raceways. Water is provided and oxygenated in a number of ways including gravity fed, pump ashore and recirculation systems (RAS).
  • Offshore farming - is the farming and/or ranching of fish in cages based in open water such as lakes, lochs and the open sea.
  • Hatcherys and Nurseries

Fishstock Insurance under the AIS product is an 'All Risk' Policy subject to policy terms and conditions. The standard perils include but are not limited to:

  • Pollution.
  • Theft, predators.
  • Predation or physical damage caused by predators or other aquatic organisms (but not by sea lice or other ectoparasites)
  • Storm, lightning, flooding, tidal wave, collision, sudden and unforeseen structural failure of equipment.
  • Jellyfish Infestation.
  • Drought, fire, lightning, explosion, earthquake.
  • Freezing, supercooling, ice damage.
  • Deoxygenation due to competing biological activity or to changes in the physical or chemical condition of the water, including upwelling and high water temperature.
  • Any other change in concentration of the normal chemical constituents of the water, including change in pH or salinity.
  • Disease including plankton bloom, algal bloom and parasitic infestation.
  • Mechanical breakdown or accidental damage to machinery and other installations.
  • Electrical breakdown, failure or interruption of the electricity supply, electrocution.

In tailoring your insurance policy the range of perils you choose can be a comprehensive 'All named perils' insurance or one or more specific perils dependant on your needs. Proposal forms can be found here.

Due to the unique nature of aquaculture farms premium terms and conditions cannot be set in a standard form due to the diversity of factors at every farm. The main factors which determine the terms and conditions of a policy are:

  • Geographical Location
  • Tidal and Weather patterns
  • Species to be insured
  • Stocking densities
  • Origin of stock
  • Type of equipment
  • Management experience and procedures

The key information which we require in order to consider a proposal are:

  • Completed Proposal forms
  • Completed stock projection for the proposed period of insurance. For more information on stock projections click here
  • Farm layout plans
  • CV's or Resumes of key management staff
  • Site Surveys
  • Photographs of the site
  • Coordinates of the Sites (in WGS 1984 DMS format) to allow the risk to be plotted geographically
